The TE-6070V-2_5 is a high volume air sampler specifically configured for PM2.5 particulate matter sampling for ambient air quality monitoring. This system collects fine particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 µm or less, making it suitable for non-regulatory studies and institutional research applications requiring precise PM2.5 measurement.
Volumetric Flow Control Operation
The volumetric flow controller (VFC) maintains a constant flow rate to ensure the system collects an accurate and representative sample. VFC systems use a critical orifice with a predetermined orifice hole diameter to control the flow rate. The critical orifice is drilled and calibrated to let only the predetermined flow rate pass through the filter. The motor operates wide open while the critical orifice maintains a constant flow rate.
Key Specifications
- Sample Type: PM2.5 particulate matter (≤2.5 µm)
- Flow Control: Volumetric flow controlled (VFC)
- Motor Type: Brush-style motor assembly
- Power: 110V, 60Hz operation
- Timer: 7-day mechanical timer with elapsed time indicator
- Filter Holder: Stainless steel filter holder for use with standard 8" x 10" filter paper
System Components
The anodized aluminum shelter and robust electrical components allow the system to operate a continuous 24 hour sample. The system includes a PM2.5 size-selective inlet that separates fine particles from coarse particles before collection on the filter media. As particulates travel through the size selective inlet, larger particulates are trapped inside the inlet while smaller PM2.5 particulates continue through and are collected on the 8" x 10" quartz filter paper. This quartz filter is weighed before and after sampling to determine the mass of particulates.
Compliance and Applications
This sampler is designed for PM2.5 monitoring in accordance with 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix L specifications for fine particulate matter measurement. The EPA has designated Tisch TE-PM2.5C Cyclone particle size separator as part of EPA-designated reference method RFPS-1014-219. Applications include ambient air quality assessment, source identification studies, and environmental compliance monitoring where PM2.5 data collection is required.
Maintenance and Operation
The brush-style motor provides proven field reliability for continuous sampling operations. These systems are available with a 7 day mechanical timer, offering simple and dependable start/stop control for routine sampling schedules. The mechanical timer eliminates the complexity of digital programming while providing reliable operation in field environments. Regular maintenance includes motor brush inspection and replacement as needed for optimal performance.
