The TE-230-EPM High Purity Glass Fiber Slotted Collection Substrates are precision-cut glass fiber collection media designed for Tisch Environmental's Series 230 high volume cascade impactors. These substrates are the most commonly used collection material for cascade impactor applications, offering superior particle retention for size-fractionated particulate monitoring from 10 µm down to sub-micron ranges.
Technical Performance
Each substrate is manufactured from high-purity borosilicate glass fibers in EPM2000 grade material, providing exceptional chemical inertness and thermal stability. The glass fiber matrix improves particle retention through deposition into the fiber lattice, reducing potential re-entrainment while particles impact on the collection substrates during cascade impaction. The borosilicate glass construction remains stable at temperatures up to 600°C, ensuring reliable performance under varied sampling conditions.
Cascade Impactor Compatibility
These substrates are thin flat sheets precisely cut with 10 perforated slots that align with the slotted jets in cascade impactor stages. The substrates act as both the particle collection surface and the vacuum seal between impactor stages. All collection substrates for impactor stages are identical in design, simplifying inventory management and reducing setup complexity.
Compatible with:
- Tisch Environmental Series 230 high volume cascade impactors (1, 4, 5, and 6-stage models)
- Impactor stages 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 (10 parallel slots each) and stage 1 (9 slots)
- Systems operating at 40 CFM flow rate separating particles from >7.2 µm to <0.49 µm
Installation and Handling
Tisch Environmental recommends lightly tapping each glass fiber collection substrate before installation to remove any excess loose fibers. Install substrates centered over the impactor slots with the rough side facing up. In high ambient humidity conditions, glass fiber substrates may adhere to collection plates — handle carefully during removal to preserve sample integrity.
Applications
These substrates enable analysis of respirable particulate matter collected across multiple size fractions, supporting comprehensive ambient air quality monitoring, source apportionment studies, and regulatory compliance programs. The lightweight substrates permit easy storage and subsequent chemical analysis, making them ideal for field sampling campaigns requiring laboratory analysis of size-segregated particulate samples.
Packaging: 100 substrates per box, individually handled to minimize contamination
