PTFE Slotted Collection Substrates for TE-230 Series Cascade Impactors

The TE-230-PTFE collection substrates are specially designed PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) sheets engineered for use in Tisch Environmental's TE-230 Series High Volume Cascade Impactors. These thin flat sheets feature 10 perforated slots that align with the impactor jets, allowing particles to impact on the substrate surface for collection and analysis.

    Technical Specifications

    • Material: PTFE (Teflon) membrane with 0.45 µm pore size
    • Configuration: 10 perforated slots exposing the impactor stage jets
    • Dimensions: 5.625 inches x 5.375 inches for easy handling and micro-balance compatibility
    • Tare weight: Approximately 1.2 grams for minimal weight interference
    • Operating temperature: Up to 260°C (500°F) continuous service

    Key Performance Features

PTFE substrates provide high collection efficiency for particles above the cutpoint of each stage without requiring adhesive coatings, while minimizing collection of particles below the cutpoint. PTFE offers exceptional chemical resistance, with only a few chemicals capable of reacting with it. This makes the substrates ideal for collecting particles without substrate coatings while retaining unstable compounds for size-fractionated chemical analysis.

    Compatibility

The collection substrates for all TE-230 Series cascade impactor stages are identical, making this product compatible with:

    • All TE-230 Series High Volume Cascade Impactor stages
    • TE-231 PM2.5 Single Stage Impactor
    • Any Tisch Environmental cascade impactor requiring slotted collection substrates

    Installation and Handling

Collection substrates are carefully placed between collection plates with clean hands so that the slots are exposed. The substrates also function as vacuum seals between impactor stages. Hand-tighten the knurled nuts lightly, as excessive tightening may cause substrate fractionation and adherence to impactor plates.

For gravimetric analysis, weighing is conducted by measuring the difference in substrate weight before and after sampling in a clean laboratory environment with relative humidity of 50% or less. The compact size allows substrates to fit standard micro-balances without folding, and the low tare weight minimizes adsorption of gaseous pollutants, thereby increasing measurement accuracy.

    Applications

These PTFE collection substrates are essential for particle size distribution studies, ambient air monitoring, and research applications requiring chemical analysis of size-fractionated particulate matter. The TE-230 series operates at 40 scfm flow rate, making these substrates suitable for high-volume air sampling in environmental monitoring programs.
