The TE-230-WH cellulose slotted collection substrates are precision-manufactured filter media designed for use in Tisch Environmental's TE-230 series cascade impactors and other compatible high-volume particle sizing systems. These cellulose-base filter media substrates provide an economical alternative to glass fiber substrates while maintaining the accuracy required for aerodynamic particle size distribution analysis.

    Technical Design

Each substrate measures 5.625 inches x 5.375 inches, sized to easily fit standard micro-balances without folding. The substrates feature 10 precisely perforated slots that align with the cascade impactor stages to expose collection zones for accurate particle capture. The compact design results in a very low tare weight of approximately 1.2 grams, which significantly increases measurement sensitivity and reduces adsorption of gaseous pollutants.

    Performance Characteristics

Compatible with TE-230 series cascade impactors operating at 40 scfm flow rates, these cellulose substrates enable classification of particles into known size ranges by drawing air samples through progressively finer nozzles, with each stage collecting particles of specific aerodynamic diameters. Particulates too large for subsequent stages are impacted on the collection substrate, while smaller particles remain in the airstream and travel to the next stage.

    Compatibility

The TE-230-WH substrates are compatible with all TE-230 series cascade impactors including models TE-231R, TE-235, and TE-236. The collection substrates for all stages are identical, simplifying inventory management. These substrates can be used with standard High Volume Air Samplers equipped with 8 inch x 10 inch filter holders, where the backup filter collects all particles smaller than the cut-off size of the last impactor stage.

    Applications

This cascade impactor system fractionates airborne particles according to their aerodynamic sizes, allowing for the collection of particulate matter and determination of concentrations of respirable particulates. The substrates enable both gravimetric and chemical analysis of collected, size-classified particles, making them ideal when mass size distribution and chemical composition analysis are required. Common applications include ambient air quality monitoring, source emissions testing, and occupational exposure assessment.

    Storage and Handling

The collection substrates provide a convenient method for particle collection and permit easy storage for subsequent chemical analysis. With clean hands, substrates should be carefully placed between collection plates ensuring slots are properly exposed. Each box contains 100 substrates, providing sufficient quantity for extended sampling campaigns while maintaining cost-effective operation compared to purchasing additional impactor stages.
