The TE-290-MCE is a specialized 34mm mixed cellulose ester (MCE) membrane filter composed of cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate designed specifically for use with the TE-298 8-stage Marple personal cascade impactor. Each filter features six precision radial slots that align with the impactor stages to capture particles across the size distribution range.
Technical Design
MCE membrane filters are comprised of pure, biologically inert mixtures of cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate, naturally low in metal background and compatible with dilute bases and acids. The uniform penetrating micropores provide up to 80‰ microporosity for consistent particle retention across the filter surface. MCE filters are naturally hydrophilic, eliminating the need for pre-wetting during sampling operations.
Key Specifications
- Diameter: 34mm
- Slot Configuration: 6 radial slots
- Pack Count: 100 filters per package
- Hydrophilic, autoclavable construction
- Low ash residue: less than 0.045% of initial weight in gravimetric analysis
Compatibility
The TE-290-MCE filters are engineered exclusively for the TE-298 8-stage Marple cascade impactor. After the last impactor stage, remaining fine particles are collected on the built-in 34mm filter. The six-slot design matches the radial slot configuration used in Marple-style personal cascade impactors operating at 2 LPM flow rate.
Applications
Personal cascade impactors provide complete and accurate aerodynamic particle size distributions of particulate in workplace environments. Particle cut-points for this series range from 21 to 0.5 microns, making them suitable for comprehensive occupational health monitoring, industrial hygiene assessments, and environmental exposure studies. MCE membranes meet NIOSH specifications for the collection and analysis of airborne metals.
Maintenance Notes
Prior to sampling, collection substrates and the back-up filter are weighed and placed in the impactor. The filters should be conditioned and weighed according to standard gravimetric analysis procedures. Store filters in sealed, moisture-proof, and fireproof conditions to maintain integrity before use.
