The TE-290-SS stainless steel substrates are precision-manufactured 34mm collection surfaces designed specifically for use with the TE-298 Marple Personal Cascade Impactor system. These substrates serve as the particle collection medium in each impactor stage, where they are weighed before and after sampling to determine particle mass distribution by size fraction.

    Technical Operation

During sampling, particles larger than each stage's aerodynamic cut-point impact directly onto the stainless steel collection substrate surface. Stainless steel substrates provide reliable collection characteristics for most particle types, though performance can vary depending on the specific aerosol being sampled. To minimize particle bounce - where impacted particles re-entrain into the airstream and contaminate downstream stages - collection substrates may be coated with grease when sampling hard, non-sticky particles.

    Package Specifications

    • Diameter: 34mm
    • Material: Stainless steel
    • Configuration: 6 slots per substrate
    • Package quantity: 10 substrates per pack

    Compatibility

These TE-290-SS substrates are designed exclusively for the TE-298 8-stage Marple Personal Cascade Impactor. The TE-298 features eight impactor stages with aerodynamic cut-points of 21.3, 14.8, 9.8, 6.0, 3.5, 1.55, 0.93, and 0.52 micrometers. Each impactor stage requires one substrate, and particles smaller than the final stage cut-point are collected on a built-in 34mm backup filter.

    Sampling Protocol

Prior to sampling, substrates must be pre-weighed using an analytical balance. After sampling, substrates are re-weighed to determine the mass of particles collected in each size range. The TE-298 impactor operates at a typical flow rate of 2.0 liters per minute using commercial personal sampling pumps.

    Applications

The Marple Personal Cascade Impactor system provides complete aerodynamic particle size distribution data for occupational and environmental exposure assessment. Applications include workplace air quality monitoring, personal exposure studies, and aerosol characterization in industrial environments where size-selective particle measurement is required.
