EPA Compliance and Method Requirements
The US EPA reference method for TSP collection is specified in 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix B. The EPA method requires filters to be maintained in a horizontal position at least 1 meter above the sampler supporting surface so that sample air is drawn downward through the filter. The TE-5003 filter holder meets these positioning requirements and is designed to work with the 39-60 cfm flow rate range specified for TSP sampling.
Technical Design
The TE-5003 features stainless steel construction for durability in outdoor ambient air monitoring applications. TSP samplers do not use a particle separator, which results in the collection of all ambient particulates – the filter holder design accommodates this unrestricted sampling approach. The aerodynamic design allows for collection of particles of 100 micrometers (Stokes Equivalent Diameter) and less.

Filter Media and Maintenance
Glass fiber filters are weighed pre and post sample, with the weight difference used to determine total suspended particulate matter concentration. Regular gasket replacement with TE-5005-9 filter holder gaskets ensures proper sealing between the filter holder and motor assembly.
