The TE-6001-2.5-7 acceleration nozzles are precision-engineered stainless steel components that serve as the heart of Tisch Environmental's PM2.5 high volume air sampling inlets. These nozzles allow only 2.5µm particulates to get deposited on the filter by directing ambient air through precisely sized openings that create the critical flow dynamics required for EPA-compliant PM2.5 monitoring.

    Technical Function

Ambient air is drawn into the inlet and is evacuated from a buffer chamber through the acceleration nozzles. The nozzle diameter is considerably smaller than PM10 nozzles, which gives a D50 cutoff of 2.5 µm. By virtue of their larger momentum, particles greater than the cutoff size impact onto a greased impaction surface, while particles 2.5 µm and smaller pass through to the collection filter.

    Key Specifications

    • Material: Stainless steel construction for corrosion resistance
    • Precision-machined openings for consistent 2.5 µm aerodynamic cutoff
    • Designed for high volume flow rates (1.13 m³/min typical)
    • Individual nozzle replacement capability

    Compatibility

These acceleration nozzles are specifically designed for Tisch Environmental's PM2.5 high volume air sampling inlets and are compatible with the complete TE-6001-2.5 retrofit kit system. They work with both mass flow controlled (MFC) and volumetric flow controlled (VFC) PM2.5 samplers. Each nozzle is sold individually to allow replacement of damaged units without requiring complete nozzle plate replacement.

    Maintenance and Installation

Individual nozzles should be inspected regularly for damage, blockage, or wear that could affect flow characteristics and sampling precision. Clean nozzles with appropriate solvents to remove accumulated particulates. Replace any nozzle showing signs of erosion, deformation, or enlarged openings, as these defects will compromise the 2.5 µm cutoff performance. Proper torque specifications must be followed during installation to ensure airtight seals without damaging the precision-machined surfaces.

    Applications

Essential for EPA-compliant PM2.5 ambient air quality monitoring programs, these nozzles enable accurate measurement of fine particulate matter for NAAQS compliance reporting. Used in regulatory monitoring networks, environmental impact assessments, and research studies requiring precise PM2.5 size-selective sampling. Critical component for retrofitting existing PM10 samplers to PM2.5 capability.
