The TE-6001-3 PM10 Acceleration Nozzle is a precision-machined component designed for PM10 impaction inlets that accelerate ambient air through critical-diameter nozzles to effect correct particle size fractionation. This nozzle serves as a critical component in the size-selective inlet system that enables compliance with 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix J PM10 reference method requirements.
Technical Function
The acceleration nozzle draws ambient air from a buffer chamber and accelerates it to create the velocity changes necessary for inertial separation. By virtue of their larger momentum, particles greater than 10 microns aerodynamic diameter impact onto the impaction plate, while particles smaller than 10 microns are carried by the air flow through vent tubes to the collection filter.
The nozzle's critical diameter provides the necessary changes in velocity to effect correct particle size fractionation within the impaction chamber. The symmetrical design ensures wind-direction insensitivity, making it suitable for ambient air monitoring applications where wind conditions vary.
PM10 Inlet Compatibility
This acceleration nozzle is designed for use with Tisch Environmental PM10 size-selective inlets that operate at 40 CFM (1.13 m³/min) flow rate. PM10 inlets typically incorporate nine acceleration nozzles facing downward to the impaction plate, with this nozzle serving as a replacement or spare component for maintaining proper inlet performance.
EPA Compliance
EPA's PM10 reference method provides for measurement of particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to 10 micrometers in ambient air over a 24-hour period. The flow rate through the sampler's inlet must be maintained throughout the sampling period within the design flow rate range specified by the manufacturer to ensure accurate size fractionation and regulatory compliance.
Maintenance Requirements
Regular inspection and replacement of acceleration nozzles ensures continued accuracy of PM10 size separation. PM10 samplers shall be maintained in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instruction manual to maintain EPA reference method compliance and measurement accuracy.
The TE-6001-3 nozzle is sold individually and should be installed following Tisch Environmental's inlet assembly procedures to ensure proper alignment and sealing within the PM10 inlet system.
