The TE-6003V filter holder is specifically designed for Volumetric Flow Controlled (VFC) PM10 and PM2.5 high volume air samplers that use a critical orifice with a predetermined orifice hole diameter to control the flow rate. This 8" × 10" stainless steel filter holder features a built-in stagnation pressure tap that measures pressure drop across the filter paper, enabling accurate flow monitoring in VFC systems.
Technical Operation
The stagnation pressure tap measures pressure drop across the filter paper, providing critical data for VFC system operation. VFC PLUS controllers use the ambient barometric pressure, ambient temperature and the pressure drop across the filter holder to accurately calculate the actual ambient volumetric flow rate. This pressure measurement is essential for ensuring EPA-compliant sampling when the motor operates wide open while the critical orifice maintains a constant flow rate.
EPA Compliance Applications
The TE-6003V supports EPA-compliant ambient air quality monitoring for both PM10 sampling as specified in 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix J and PM2.5 sampling as specified in 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix L. The measurement process is nondestructive, and collected samples can be subjected to subsequent physical or chemical analyses after the required gravimetric weighing procedures.
- Standard 8" × 10" filter size for high volume sampling
- Stagnation pressure tap for VFC flow monitoring
- Compatible with 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix J (PM10)
- Compatible with 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix L (PM2.5)
- Stainless steel construction for durability
VFC System Compatibility
This filter holder is designed exclusively for VFC (Volumetric Flow Controlled) systems and is not compatible with MFC (Mass Flow Controlled) systems. VFC systems use a critical orifice that is drilled and calibrated to let only the predetermined flow rate pass through the filter. For MFC systems, use the standard TE-6003 filter holder without the stagnation pressure tap.
Compatible VFC system components include VFC controllers with lookup tables (TE-10557 series), VFC PLUS controllers that calculate ambient flow rates, and associated pressure recording equipment. The stagnation pressure tap connects to flow/pressure recorders and manometers for continuous monitoring and documentation.
Maintenance Notes
Regular inspection of the stagnation pressure tap and connecting tubing ensures accurate pressure measurements. EPA regulations require that PM10 samplers be maintained in strict accordance with manufacturer maintenance procedures. Clean the pressure tap periodically to prevent blockage from accumulated particulates, and verify that connecting tubing remains free of leaks or obstructions.
