    The TE-5170D is a high-volume air sampler designed for total suspended particulate matter (TSP) collection in ambient air for determining compliance with national ambient air quality standards. This configuration features mass flow control (MFC), a digital timer, and a brush motor system powered by 110V, 60Hz electrical supply.

    Mass Flow Control Technology

    The MFC system uses a hot wire anemometer probe positioned in the airstream to maintain precise flow control. The hot wire anemometer probe automatically adjusts motor speed as the filter begins to collect particulate, compensating for filter loading and ensuring consistent sampling conditions throughout the 24-hour collection period. This active flow control helps maintain the required 40-60 cubic feet per minute sampling rate specified in the EPA reference method.

    Digital Timer System

    The digital timer provides programmable sampling schedules with precise start/stop control. Recommended by the US EPA, the digital timer allows for 1 in 3, 1 in 6, 1 in 7, and custom sampling schedules. Internal battery backup ensures the timer does not need to be reset after a power outage, and includes an LCD screen and soft push buttons for easy operation.

    Brush Motor Drive System

    The brush motor provides reliable, field-proven performance for high-volume air sampling applications. While requiring periodic brush replacement, brush motors offer straightforward maintenance and proven durability in outdoor ambient monitoring environments.

    EPA Compliance and Applications

    Designed to meet 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix B requirements for TSP sampling. This method uses a high-volume sampler to collect particles with aerodynamic diameters of approximately 100 µm or less. The sampler is suitable for ambient air quality monitoring, lead (Pb) monitoring programs, and atmospheric particulate research where total suspended particulate data is required.

    Shelter and Construction

    The sampler is housed in an anodized aluminum shelter with a gabled roof assembly designed to allow particulate matter to be drawn onto the filter from all four sides, with rugged construction that withstands the elements with minimal maintenance.
