TSP Hi-Vol Air Sampler with VFC, Mechanical Timer, Brush Motor - 220V 50Hz SKU: TE-5170VX

    Out of Stock

The TE-5170VX is a high volume air sampler engineered for Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) collection in compliance with the EPA reference method specified in 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix B. This configuration delivers reliable ambient air monitoring for particles with aerodynamic diameters of approximately 100 µm or less, supporting environmental compliance programs and research applications worldwide.

    Volumetric Flow Control Technology

The VFC system uses a critical orifice with a predetermined orifice hole diameter to control the flow rate. The critical orifice is drilled and calibrated to let only the predetermined flow rate to pass through the filter. The motor operates wide open while the critical orifice maintains a constant flow rate, ensuring consistent sample collection across varying field conditions including filter loading and environmental factors.

    Key Specifications

    • Flow rate: 39-60 ft³/min over a constant sampling period
    • Power configuration: 220V, 50Hz for international applications
    • Motor type: Brush-style motor providing proven field reliability
    • Timer: 7-day mechanical timer for dependable start/stop control
    • Sample period: 1,440 ±60 minutes for a valid sample

    System Components

The sampler is housed in an anodized aluminum shelter with a gabled roof assembly. The shelter is designed to allow particulate matter to be drawn onto the filter from all four sides. The rugged construction of the outdoor enclosure allows it to withstand the elements with minimal maintenance. Standard features include an elapsed time indicator - a mechanical clock that counts the hours and minutes that the instrument is actively collecting a sample. This device is used to track motor life, motor brush changes, and to verify the sampling time.

    Applications

The TE-5170VX supports ambient air quality monitoring programs requiring measurement of the mass concentration of total suspended particulate matter (TSP) in ambient air for determining compliance with the primary and secondary national ambient air quality standards. The measurement process is nondestructive, and the size of the sample collected is usually adequate for subsequent chemical analysis, including metals analysis and source identification studies.

    Regulatory Compliance

This sampler meets the requirements of 40 CFR Part 50, Appendix B for TSP reference method sampling. The total volume of air sampled, corrected to EPA standard conditions (25°C, 760 mm Hg [101 kPa]), is determined from the measured flow rate and the sampling time. The concentration of total suspended particulate matter in the ambient air is computed as the mass of collected particles divided by the volume of air sampled, corrected to standard conditions, and is expressed in micrograms per standard cubic meter (µg/std m³).

    International Power Configuration

The 220V 50Hz power configuration makes this unit suitable for deployment in international monitoring networks and regions where this electrical standard is used. The brush motor design provides field-proven performance with established maintenance procedures for long-term operation in ambient monitoring programs.
