Whatman stages multiple glass fiber layers inside the GD/X cartridge to intercept particles in progressive steps, leaving only the smallest fraction to reach the tightly rated final membrane. Syringe filters replace the separate holder and vacuum apparatus of bulk filtration with a single disposable unit, eliminating cleaning between samples. Nylon arrives in economical bulk packaging for high-volume routine filtration and withstands elevated differential pressures. Polyolefin construction sheds virtually no extractable material into the sample while pressing snugly against the membrane during the pass and resists degradation from routine sample matrices. Where bench-scale prep must move quickly from one sample to the next, each sample starts as clean as the last without a carry-over risk or a cleaning step between uses.
