Whatman pairs a borosilicate fiber depth layer with the finishing membrane inside every GD/X unit, a construction meant to process loads heavy enough to clog a conventional one-stage filter. Gas and vent service calls for a hydrophobic syringe filter rated to the same sterilizing-grade pore size as its liquid counterpart. Hydrophobic PTFE delivers sterilizing-grade gas and vent filtration at the rated pore size while suiting solvent filtration where other membranes fail and withstands aggressive organics that degrade other media. The polypropylene housing presses snugly against the membrane during the pass and keeps the sample chemically unaltered across the pass. Downstream equipment and work areas stay protected from airborne bacterial contamination once the vent path runs through the membrane.
