Featuring a thin, microporous polycarbonate film with precisely defined cylindrical pores, these Polycarbonate Track Etched (PCTE) membrane discs deliver a sharply controlled 0.4um pore size across a 142mm diameter format. Manufactured using a two-step track-etch process that independently controls pore size and pore density, the membrane provides accurate, reproducible separation with particles captured directly on the smooth, flat surface. A polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) wetting treatment renders the naturally hydrophobic polycarbonate hydrophilic for spontaneous aqueous wetting. The discs are supplied nonsterile, white, and not gridded in packs of 20.

Key Polycarbonate Track Etched (PCTE) Membrane Characteristics

    • Hydrophilic surface: PVP-treated polycarbonate wets readily with aqueous solutions for consistent flow.
    • Precise cylindrical pores: Straight-through, track-etched pores provide an exact 0.4um size cutoff and reproducible particle separation.
    • Surface capture: Particles larger than the pore size are retained on the smooth, flat surface, ideal for optical and SEM examination.
    • Low protein binding and low extractables: Minimizes sample loss and background interference for clean results.
    • Thin translucent film: A glass-like surface resists chemical staining to ease microscopic visualization.

    Key Construction Characteristics

    • Membrane material: Polycarbonate Track Etched (PCTE) film, 5 to 12um thick.
    • Diameter: 142mm disc format, white and not gridded.
    • Sterility and pack: Supplied nonsterile, 20 discs per pack.
    • Thermal tolerance: Autoclavable with a maximum operating temperature of 140 degrees C.

The track-etch structure delivers one of the most accurate pore size distributions available, supporting reliable, reproducible separations. Surface capture on a single plane simplifies particle identification and quantification while maintaining sample integrity. Low non-specific binding and low extractables help preserve critical solution recovery and analytical accuracy.
