High-purity glass microfiber thimbles manufactured from 1% pure borosilicate glass are available for specialized applications. The thimbles are completely free of additives and can be used at temperatures up to 5 degrees C or when using solvents incompatible with cellulose thimbles. These thimbles are also used in pollution monitoring techniques (.8 um nominal particle retention).

Whatman 603G borosilicate glass fiber thimbles with inorganic binder are flexibly designed for use in a full range of commercially available Soxhlet apparatus systems.
