All bacteria develop on this Total Count medium and produce a red color as a result of the precipitation of formazan following the reduction of 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) by bacteria, making colonies easy to distinguish and count. The plastic ampoule format eliminates the manipulation of glass ampoules and avoids the waste and spoilage associated with bulk-packaged media.
