Whatman pairs a borosilicate fiber depth layer with the finishing membrane inside every GD/X unit, a construction meant to process loads heavy enough to clog a conventional one-stage filter. At the sub-micron pore rating, a syringe filter delivers sterilizing-grade retention at the point of use. The nylon matrix achieves sterile-rated retention across the operating envelope while resisting alkaline buffer systems and adds a layered prefilter for particulate-laden samples. Low-extractable polypropylene keeps sample purity intact through the filtration pass while pressing snugly against the membrane during the pass and maintains structural integrity through elevated-temperature sample preparation. Where bacterial contamination must stay out of the sample, manufacturer-tested retention keeps the instrument and downstream assay protected without a housing to maintain or clean.
