FTA-treated cellulose denatures proteins and inactivates pathogens on contact while DNA and RNA stay bound to the card. The FTA matrix binds and stabilizes nucleic acid directly on the card while rupturing cells and inactivating pathogens at collection and washes in place for direct amplification from the punch. When a genotyping run needs nucleic acid ready on demand, the punched FTA disc carries bound DNA straight into amplification.
