FTA-treated cellulose denatures proteins and inactivates pathogens on contact while DNA and RNA stay bound to the card. Retained nucleic acid washes in place and amplifies directly from the punch while binding and stabilizing nucleic acid directly on the card and breaks open cells while neutralizing pathogens on application. When a genotyping run needs nucleic acid ready on demand, the punched FTA disc carries bound DNA straight into amplification.
