FTA-treated cellulose denatures proteins and inactivates pathogens on contact while DNA and RNA stay bound to the card. FTA chemistry locks DNA and RNA in place at room temperature while lysing cells on contact and denaturing proteins and washes in place for direct amplification from the punch. When a genotyping run needs nucleic acid ready on demand, the punched FTA disc carries bound DNA straight into amplification.
